Ebco's Trend of The Month: Sleep & Recovery Products

Sleep & Recovery based products

From Ebco’s Trend of the month Club

In today's ever-changing market, being FIRST to market or NOT can literally mean the difference between tens of millions in revenue for your company or a major lost opportunity, in a matter of weeks! In our August series we focused on Sleep & Recovery trends and published our unboxing for our member group. Get a sneak peek of our Trend of the Month Club!

Why did we select Sleep & Recovery? Good question! We chose sleep & recovery because of the increasing awareness of factors affecting sleep & recovery — the CDC has declared insufficient sleep a public health epidemic — and we’re seeing a high amount of innovation happening in the space. It has also been proven it can’t be hacked. There are no shortcuts. And brands are getting more serious about ensuring consumers get enough quality sleep.

We’d like to share 4 trend insights that we’re seeing in the Sleep & Recovery category and cover some of our favorite products.

Trend 1:

Sleep as a lifestyle

OUR PHYSICAL SURROUNDINGS AFFECT US MORE THAN WE MAY KNOW. Gone are the days of traditional mattresses and bedding supplied from one retailer: the large department store. Today’s direct-to-consumer trend encompasses new materials and products such as copper-infused bedding, silk eye shades, pillow cases and blackout curtains. Consumers have a greater consciousness regarding their physical surroundings — light pollution, personalized mattresses and lighting are examples. “People are setting aside a budget for self-care. It’s really hard to put a price on getting a good night’s sleep”

Trend 2:

Sleep Tech: Gadgets, Devices, and Apps

As consumers increasingly understand the need for quality sleep, they are turning to purchasing more gadgets, devices and applications. Artificial lights can introduce melatonin-suppressing blue-light that tricks the body into thinking it’s daytime when it’s not, making it harder to shut down for sleep. It’s important to understand what light you’re being exposed to, especially if you’re not outside a lot. You should minimize your exposure to blue light, in particular, in the few hours before you go to sleep.

Trend 3:

Sleep-targeted Nutrition

Consumers are more aware than ever that the food, nutrients, supplements, medications and over-the-counter medications may be interfering with their sleep. They are using CBD, Gaba, Nootropics and biohacking to optimize ultimate sleep and support their bodies’ respective natural sleep-regulating cycle. There has been research that indicates CBD can be a helpful antidote to anxiety and insomnia.

Trend 4:

Recovery and Optimization

There’s a growing wave of interest in restorative experiences, therapies and products: everything from float therapy, cryotherapy, grounding and restorative yoga/stretching to brain enhancing teas and tonics. Today, people seem more willing to accept recovery as an integral part of their fitness, self-care and lifestyle routines. ClassPass named recovery one of the fastest-growing trends last year, reporting a 16% rise in restorative and recovery classes booked.
